UK Sightings Persist, Lantern Theory Crumbles and UFOs Invade The Outback

From Bill Knell, 6/30/08:

Even though the news media has satisfied itself that the UFO sightings that began on June 7, 2008 in the UK were nothing more than Chinese lanterns set off for a wedding celebration that same day, there is yet another credible sighting report that occurred in the area days later. Dr Simon Griffey, 50, and his son Jack, 23, say they were driving near Llangynidr Mountain in the Brecon Beacons, Powys, when they spotted unusual lights over Talybont-on-Usk in Wales. The incident took place on June 12, 2008 at around 11:40pm and Jack took a cell phone photograph of the lights. It would have been impossible for the lanterns released on June 7th to account for those lights because they would have all burned out and crashed to earth by that time.

Dr Griffey, a psychologist at Cardiff University, told UK newspapers, “There were seven lights and having read the description from the soldiers in Shropshire, there are some similarities. They were the same sort of colour and the same spherical shape that they reported… I know I wasn’t seeing things because Jack saw exactly the same as I did – and two other cars pulled over to look… There was no noise whatsoever, it was a bit eerie. I’ve driven over this mountain for 17 years and have never seen anything like it.”

When confronted with the Chinese Lanterns theory, Dr Griffey stated, “The police helicopter crew said they failed to record the sighting on their equipment.” The psychologist noted the same thing that I pointed out when the lanterns theory was put forth a few days ago, that they should have shown up on the police helicopter‘s camera equipment or the pilot‘s night vision goggles. Furthermore, his son’s photo only captured three of seven objects he was trying to photograph. Dr Griffey went on to say, “If it had been a natural phenomenon you surely would have been able to photograph all of it. I’d like someone to explain – because I have no idea what to make of it.”

The location of the June 12th sighting lies directly between the locations of the June 7th-8th Tern Hills barracks and the St Athan police helicopter incidents. If someone were to explain this sighting using the Chinese lanterns released on June 7th, they would have to explain how those lanterns managed to stay lighted and airborne for days after they were released. And there is still the problem of the daylight sighting of a classic disc-shaped object on June 7th by Shaun Williams. Williams, 12, photographed a classic flying saucer while taking pictures of an airplane. It’s now known that his photo was taken around 3pm, earlier than the alleged release of the Chinese lanterns by a local hotel manager.

On top of all the activity in Wales, a new set of UFO sightings were reported over Basingstoke, England, on Saturday, June 28, 2008 and include photos of up to twelve objects. David Osborne, 47, made this statement to a UK newspaper: “My adrenaline was pumping and I was trembling all over… I’ve never seen anything like it. It was amazing.” The father of two and amateur astronomer asked his daughters to bring his camera outside to where he was watching the oibjects. They did, and he managed to take several photographs before going back in his house to report the UFOs. Osborne called nearby RAF Odiham.

Osborne’s daughters Natalie, 20, and Charlotte, 18, remained outside and watched the objects. Charlotte said, “There were about 12 of these orange-coloured spherical objects. I thought, ‘Oh my God – what the hell is that?’ They were changing formation in the sky for half an hour.” Natalie, a university student, was equally impressed and said, “Chinook helicopters regularly fly over – but these were silent. It’s scary.” The Osbornes were not the only Basingstoke UFO witnesses. Reg Lockyer, 47, claimed he saw up to twenty of them and told a local newspaper, “I thought it was absolutely a fleet of UFOs.”

In behavior that is identical to what happened in places like New Jersey, Indiana, Illinois and Texas over the past year in the USA, witnesses say that the lights over Basingstoke “drifted across the sky, switching from a delta formation, to a random pattern, then an arched line and a triangle before disappearing.” David Osborne said, “They weren’t moving fast enough for a satellite and were hovering, not being blown about by the wind.”

Basingstoke is located in Hampshire, South East England, about forty-eight miles southwest of London. It has a population of over 80,000 people and is no where near the Welsh towns where the June 7th and 8th UFO sightings occurred. Like many areas in England, this town has been the site of multiple UFO sightings over the years and, along with the observations of strange objects in the sky, has been a place where strange creatures have been spotted.

During the 1990s, one or more big cats (some believe them to be Pumas) were seen in Basingstoke and became known as the Beast of Basingstoke. It is not unusual for areas which are regularly visited by UFOs to also feature reports of animals out of place. These are usually wild animals that appear out of no where in an area where they do not belong and have not been previously reported. Some believe that they are brought to such towns by the UFOs for reasons and agendas unknown.

While all this was going on in the UK, the Australian Press reported that the tiny town of Marlinja, with a population of just 112 people, experienced its own alien invasion. On Sunday, June 21, 2008, the Outback town located in the Northern Territory experienced the sudden appearance of three bright red lights in the sky. In a pattern similar to what happened several months ago in Northern Indiana, USA, a loud noise was heard by residents around 8pm. The noise became so loud that it shook houses.

When residents came out of their homes to see what was causing the noise, they saw three red lights that formed a triangle. The triangle hovered above homes for three hours from 8pm to 11pm until it finally disappeared. During that time the object moved over several houses and hovered just a few feet above the rooftops. The light inside the houses became extremely bright as the object passed over. Ms. Dixon, a Marlinja resident, said, “The light in the house became so bright, it was like we were sitting in a football stadium." Residents said that the loud noise was heard again just before the object vanished.

As with the UK sightings, a number of UFOs have recently been seen in Australia. The sightings began at the end of May with a report from Lawrie Fuchs, 70, and his wife Gwen, 69. The couple were returning to their home town of Elliott following a trip to Queensland. While on route, they claim that a large UFO sped over their vehicle as they drove along the Barkly Highway. Although they have lived in the Elliot area for forty years, the Fuchs say that have never experienced anything like this incident.

Lawrie Fuchs told reporters, “It was about 4pm when suddenly we saw a dark, silvery flash and heard a loud sound as it passed. It was traveling at a terrific speed, very bloody fast, and there was no warning at all. I'm sure it dive-bombed us but I can't imagine why… I do a lot of bush work and over the years I've seen a number of strange, unexplained things, but nothing like this… I actually thought it hit the car, but there were no marks.” Australian newspapers report that the couple were traveling in a westerly direction, about 55km east of the Threeways roadhouse, when the incident occurred.

Just a week before the Fuchs encounter, another man reported seeing a UFO near Tennant Creek. Alan Martin, a deaf Aboriginal man in his 40s, was returning from the store when he said he saw a disc-shaped object at close range. A drawing he made later showed red, green and blue lights on a huge disc. Alan says the thing appeared out of nowhere during broad daylight and vanished a few minutes later after hovering nearby.
